Makawao - Rodeo General Store Upcountry Maui - Makawao June 18, 2008
The Makawao Rodeo General Store has been closed for over six month due to new ownership and a major renovation. Yesterday was their Grand Reopening! Today, I strolled in with excitement after overhearing the buzz about the new deli food bar. It's been gutted completely and renewed! The new layout is smart and the samplings from few of their salad offerings were delicious. I tried a bit of the Kale Caesar Salad and the Kung Pao Cabbage. The wine cellar is still in the same place and is now expanded. Makawao has been longing for venue of healthy, delicious and affordable food to go. Kama'aina will be happy to see that plate lunches are still on the menu. Hurray!
Kula Meadowood - Proposed Senior Housing Upcountry Kula Maui Real Estate June 16, 2008
Architect, Clayton Nishikawa, typically noted for his resort luxury home designs is proposing a new 116-unit housing project for independent senior living. The proposed Kula Meadowood is to be located south of Kula 200, on the mauka side of Lower Kula Road. The 85 acres of fallow pineapple fields is slated to have 70 affordable units and 46 units at market value. See complete story in the Maui News.
It will be interesting to watch and listen to the feedback from the community. Let's hope this is not another ploy to fast track a project through the County of Maui's permit process on the basis of elderly housing, like The Cottages a Kulamalu. Buyers aged 55 years and older had the first right to purchase these units within the first ninety days. However interest from this sector of buyers was minimal, as all the homes are two-story and bedrooms are located on the second floor!
