When you think of Maui ocean sports typically, whale watching, surfing, windsurfing, kite-boarding and scuba-diving come to mind. How about swimming? Not really you say. Maui has many County public pools all which are open to the public and are FREE! In addition, many people choose the calm ocean waters off Kamaole One Beach Park as an alternative to swimming pool laps. Any morning, you can roughly find a handful of swimmers just off the shoreline swimming for a workout. Swimming is one of the best activities to keep in shape for the benefit of other ocean activities as well as keeping your body and heart healthy. There is also a group of swimmers, the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers, (check them out on YouTube) who generally meet every Sunday in Makena (South Maluaka Beach Park) for a leisurely and fun Sunday swim.
This Sunday, March 2, 2008, the Valley Isle Masters Swim Club hosts it's annual Swim For Your Heart at Wailea Beach at 8:30 a.m. For a list alternative ocean and land activities check out the Valley Isle Road Runners on-line calendar. |
